Recently, Sensata Technology announced the development of a new tire mount sensor for vehicle and tire manufacturers to improve vehicle safety and performance and provide more effective insight into tire data.

The tire mount sensor is a new generation of products for the development of tire sensor technology. In addition to providing tire pressure and temperature data, it also uses the tire as the only point of contact between the vehicle and the road to provide more effective tire data insight. Sensata technology's new tire mount sensors include the TPMS function and an accelerometer to detect the force of the tire hitting the ground. The tire-mounted sensor is mounted directly on the inner wall of the tire to identify the brand and model of the tire and to provide continuous data tracking for the entire life cycle of a specific tire.

Sensata Technology's new tire-mount sensor will be launched in 2023 for a fleet remodeling program for a leading tire manufacturer. Sensa is also working with a wide range of tyre and vehicle manufacturers for more opportunities.

Sensata Technology's tire mount sensors can benefit vehicle owners, tire and vehicle manufacturers with the following:

01 Improve vehicle safety, tire life, fuel efficiency, and range estimates: When data from the sensors is paired with the load calculation algorithm, the vertical load of each tire can be estimated when the vehicle is running. If the vehicle is overloaded or unbalanced, the system will notify the driver. Over 10%, tire life by 16% and fuel efficiency by 10%. Vehicle load data can help vehicles improve safety, extend tire life, and improve mileage estimates. In addition, the tire-mounted sensor provides real-time feedback for the battery management system (BMS), which can more accurately calculate the range of an electric vehicle.

02 Better vehicle handling: Tire feature information is programmed into sensors to facilitate the vehicle to adjust performance and handling to match installed tires.

03 More accurate ADAS performance: For example, in the process of detecting road conditions, the sensor can inform the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) to adapt and make more timely and accurate adjustments in the shortest braking distance.

04 Simplify tire maintenance data tracking: Tire and vehicle manufacturers can more easily conduct tire maintenance demand tracking and accurately push service messages, because vehicles equipped with tire-mounted sensors can automatically identify tire information from the sensors.

Eric Sorret, Vice President of Sensata Technology Passenger Car Division, said:

"This opportunity to provide leading tire manufacturers with a new generation of tire management solutions demonstrates the value and role of our new tire mount sensors. We believe that the new tire-mounted sensors will also help more people, including fleet owners, vehicle manufacturers and end-consumers.”
